October 25, 2018

On October 25, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing hosted a reception and talk featuring the eighth president of Barnard College, Sian Leah Beilock.

At this intimate gathering, President Beilock shared her research on the brain science behind “choking under pressure” and the many brain and body factors influencing all types of performance: from test-taking to public speaking. She also talked about some simple strategies that can help us ensure success under pressure.

During the Q&A session, President Beilock answered questions from parents and prospective students regarding the unique relationship between Barnard and Columbia, how Barnard creates a supportive atmosphere for students, and what Barnard has been doing to encourage students to pursue STEM.

At the end of the presentation, Julia Qian BC ’15, on behalf of Barnard alumnae in China, presented a gift to President Beilock, welcoming her to China.

Around 50 Barnard and Columbia alumni and parents joined the gathering.
