July 22, 2018

On July 22, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, Teachers College of Columbia University, and China Education Improving Institute collaboratively held a panel discussion on how to improve the education quality of universities in China.

After an opening remarks by Dr. Portia Williams from Teachers College, the panelists entered a discussion focusing on how to raise the quality of the university education in China. Mr. Jiayong Zhang, the vice president of China Education Improving Institute, presented a comparative study between the education philosophy of Confucius and of John Dewey, which may suggest a new way for China to improve its education quality.

During the Q&A session, Mr. Jianbo Hu, the chairman of the board at Xi’an Eurasia University, commented on the current situation of private universities in China and identified both the challenges and the possibilities for such universities.

At 1:30 p.m., a panel discussion on education investment with panelists either from education industry or from investment business was successfully held.

During the panel discussion, leaders and experts in education and in investment exchanged their opinions on how capital power would shape the future of education. The panel discussion ended up with a consensus that since the idea of “lifelong learning” is prevailing, education would be much more popular than ever before.
