As the G-20 Energy Ministerial Meeting was underway in Beijing, a workshop was held on June 28 which focused on the problems facing the solar power industry. The workshop, called “Financing Challenges for Solar Power”, was co-organized by the Columbia Center on Global Energy Policy in partnership with the Clean Development Mechanism Fund of the Ministry of Finance, the Energy Development Research Center of the China Investment Association and the New Era Renewable Energy Alliance.
For the fifth year, the Paris Center welcomed in June the Alliance Summer School in Science and Policy in Paris.
On June 15, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing held a Beijing In-Country Orientation and Mixer event for students who have their local internships under CEO and CU-GO programs, sponsored by the Center for Career Education (CCE).

In March 2016, Studio-X Amman, in partnership with Sijal Institute for Arabic Language and Culture, launched the Janet Abu-Lughod Library seminar, a series of meetings led by Zachary Sheldon, doctoral student in Socio-Cultural and Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Chicago, and Fulbright Research Fellow in Amman.
Columbia University has created the Sakıp Sabancı Chair and Center for Turkish Studies, the first such center in the United States. Established with a $10 million gift and named for its benefactor, a Turkish businessman and philanthropist, the goal of the center and the professorship is to increase knowledge and awareness about Turkey.

On June 14, the Museum of Modern Art in New York hosted the book launch for The Arab City: Architecture and Representation, edited by Amale Andraos, Dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University and Architecture Advisor to the President, Nora Akawi, Studio-X Amman Curator and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, and Caitlin Blanchfield.
Thanks to a generous gift from the family of the late Sakıp Sabancı, Columbia University has created the Sakıp Sabancı Chair and Center for Turkish Studies. As the first center for Turkish Studies in the United States named for its benefactor, the Sakıp Sabancı Center will forge a new era of scholarly collaborations between Sabancı University and Columbia University and also the two countries.
As globalization increases, international cultural exposure and work experiences become important to successfully navigating and meeting the demands of a changing work environment. Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai hosted the Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) program that offers undergraduate students a high quality internship experience in a diverse array of industries and organizations through alumni and employer partnerships in eight cities across the world. Ten students spent two months from June to August interning with leading for-profit and non-profit organizations in Mumbai.

President Lee Bollinger spoke highly of Dr. CHEN for being a tireless public servant responsbile for the health and well-being of 1.3 billion people as Chinese Minister of Health by expanding medical insurance coverage and increasing funding to cope with unprecedented public health challenges.

With this reality in mind, the Mumbai Center hosted University Chaplain, Jewelnel Davis, and four Kraft Global Fellows from May 24-June 3 for an intensive field study on Religious Pluralism in India.
