On July 18th, representatives from Human Resources Departments of several public sector entities in Brazil came together to debate strategies for human resources management in public institutions with Professor Barbara Nunberg (Columbia/ SIPA) and Antoine Lusao (Director of Staff and Management at State Institute of Environment - INEA).

On Friday, July 22, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing on behalf of Teachers College hosted a Happy Hour for its incoming students. 

On July 21, a special piano performance was held at the Columbia Global Center | Beijing which showcased talented Columbia University and Juilliard School pianist Nansong Huang. The event was co-sponsored by the Columbia University Department of Music.

2016 Beijing Energy Week (BEW) was held with great success from July 16- 20 in Beijing. A 4-day-workshop convened at Columbia Global Center | Beijing, Tsinghua University, and other places.The workshop brought together students, leaders from academia, and energy practitioners around the world to network and debate about the energy and sustainable development issues.

Jordan will host experts from 22 countries for a global nursing and midwifery summit on Monday under the patronage of HRH Princess Muna, organisers said. The summit is the initiative of the Columbia Global Centres in Amman and New York’s Columbia University School of Nursing.

Professors William Wadsworth, Administrative Academic Director of the Creative Writing Program at Columbia University’s School of The Arts, and Paulo Henriques Britto, from the Literature Department of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro talked on the Master Class “Word for word: Creative Writing and Literary Translation”, held at Estação das Letras (Rio de Janeiro) on July 6th.

On July 9, the Beijing Center co-hosted an orientation and welcome reception for newly-enrolled students in partnership with the Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CUCSSA) and the Columbia Alumni Association of Beijing. 

José Antonio Ocampo, Professor in the School of International and Public Affairs, and Co-President of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue at Columbia University, has recently published an article titled Realizing the Potential of China’s G20 Presidency (published before Brexit vote). This article reviews briefly the uncertainty that today’s global economy especially the emerging world is experiencing.

Organized by Columbia Global Centers | Rio de Janeiro, the goal of the meeting was to present the preliminary results from two collaborative researches between Interdisciplinary Center for Inequality Studies (NIED/UFRJ) and the Center for Studies of Wealth and Inequality (CWI/Columbia University)  to a group specialized in stratification in Brazil.

Organized by Columbia Global Centers | Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with Department of Sociology at Columbia University and Interdisciplinary Center for Inequality Studies, from Federal University of Rio, the class brought a variety of themes related to gender inequalities that are being discussed.

On July 18-19, 2016, Columbia Global Centers | Amman and Columbia University School of Nursing will host the Global Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Research Development Initiative in Amman, Jordan. Experts from approximately 22 countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region will meet to identify, prioritize, and gain consensus on how to address critical regional health needs.
