On April 5, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing and Columbia University Teachers College Alumni Association of China, Beijing jointly held the very first TC alumni gathering event of the season in 2017. Around 40 alumni attended the event along with ZHANG Ni, a TC alumna ’06 with a master degree in International Education Development and the founder of the Children’s Museum Research Center at Beijing Normal University China Philanthropic Research Institute, as the special guest to deliver a speech about education.

Antonio Prata is a Brazilian writer, chronicler and screenwriter. He has already published over 10 books, including “Nu, de botas” and “Meio Intelectual, Meio de Esquerda”. This semester, Prata is a Visiting Scholar at the School of the Arts and teaches about the literary genre chronicle or “crônica” (in Portuguese), which is characterized by short texts about everyday life and is widely cultivated in Brazil.

The organizing committee of the Tunis International Book Fair announced that Columbia University in the City of New York and the Lebanese Republic will be the guests of honor for 2017. The 33rd Tunis International Book Fair takes place on March 24 - April 2 in the city of Tunis, Tunisia. The University’s participation in the book fair shows the growing ties between Columbia and Tunisia. Honored guests at previous fairs have included France and Egypt, among others.

On March 25, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing and No-Boundaries International Art Exhibition jointly held the third event of the 2017 No-Boundaries International Art Exhibition Arts Lecture Series – “From Doodle to Art, the Space We Need to Give to Children”at Columbia Global Centers | Beijing.

Thomas Di Prete, Giddins Professor of Sociology, and Co-Director of the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy at Columbia University, visited Santiago and spoke on Gender Inequality in STEM Education in an event organized by the Santiago Center, Comunidad Mujer, COES, and the School of Economy and Business of the University of Chile.

Strengthening the participation of women in the clean energy revolution that Chile is experiencing, as well as promoting their inclusion in leadership positions within the sector’s companies, universities, government, and non-profit institutions, was the main objective of an extremely successful workshop organized by the Santiago Center in conjunction with the Chilean Renewable Energy Association (ACERA). The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and had the support of the United States Embassy.

On March 19, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing and Hireading Club jointly held the very first event of Columbia Global Centers | Beijing Salon Series – a book panel on The Empire of the Steppes. Dr. LIN Nan from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), who is also a Columbia SIPA alumnus, was invited to lead the panel. The event attracted around 40 participants.

On March 17, the international conference of the World Economy and the Role of the State in Economic Growth was successfully held in Beijing. 

On March 17, the Center for International Foreign Language Teacher Education (CIFLTE) of Columbia University Teachers College held a workshop for its two teacher training programs at Columbia Global Centers | Beijing. Dr. LIU Lening, Director of the Confucius Institute at Columbia University and Director of the Chinese Language Program, was invited to attend the event.
