In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, viewership of pandemic-themed films has surged. What is it about these films that is capturing our collective imagination? Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai organized a conversation between Columbia University Professor, Richard Pena, and the Center Director, Dr. Ravina Aggarwal.  

“40% of people living with HIV currently are not accessing treatment...to combat the spread of diseases, it is essential to gain access to the population, identify people at risk and provide treatment to such individuals", said Wafaa El Sadr, University Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine, Columbia University, as she presented the Second Distinguished Yusuf Hamied Lecture organized by Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai on January 30, 2020.  

The historic city of Vrindavan is undergoing rapid transformation. Perspectives on this changing landscape of extreme religious and environmental significance were provided in a public lecture by Barnard Professor John Stratton Hawley who has spent over forty years visiting and doing academic work in Vrindavan. 

Two exciting startups – Extrinsic Labs and Kara Atmospheric Water – have won the US track of the Urban Works Innovation Challenge 2019-2020.  Hosted through the Columbia Venture Competition by the School of Engineering, in partnership with the Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai, applications were invited from students as well as recent alumni.

This was the first panel of a three-part panel series hosted by the Columbia Global Centers| Nairobi and Columbia Global Centers| Rio de Janeiro. The purpose of this series is to hear from experts and residents of informal settlements about some of the pressing issues related to the Covid- 19 pandemic in informal settlements in these two populous cities.
