Sol Azrieli spent the 2017-18 academic year in Paris with the Columbia Undergraduate Programs in Paris. During his stay, he served as intern and videographer for the Columbia Sounds Concert Series.

Eloy Oliveira finished his Masters in Public Administration at SIPA in May 2016 and became the CEO of Instituto República, a foundation based in Rio de Janeiro.

On May 31st 2018 Columbia Global Centers | Nairobi, hosted a  private screening on the short film 'Slow Down' by Folklore Films and Anto Neosoul.  The film covers the story of redemption in the life of teenage boy who was brought up in an informal settlement or ghetto.  The boy had big dreams  but the circumstances of struggle and misfortune forced him to indulge in crime. The young boy whose football dreams and impoverished reality were inextricably intertwined, lead to a life of crime in the ghetto. He pays the ultimate price for seeking a way out of poverty. The film is inspired by actual events.

The Center, under its theme - Creative and Liberal Arts, is committed to providing a platform for local artists to utilize their influence and success to inspire the youth by empowering them to be confident, productive and to make a positive impact in their communities.  The event also incorporated a panel discussion on the film where the audience was engaged in highlighting issues that are currently affecting the youth and to suggest remedies to these challenges.

The event is the second among a series of events that kicked off in December 2017 when the Center hosted a group of six artists where they talked about their life beyond their music careers.

María Garcés (MA'2017 GSAPP) is a Chilean architect and will work on An Examination of Disaster Management and Recovery in Post-Disaster Chile.

The Capstone workshop team that was awarded this year's Dr. Susan Aurelia Gitelson Award for Human Values in International Affairs.

On May 30, 2018, UNHCR’s Regional Director for MENA, Mr. Amin Awad and the Executive Vice President for Global Centers and Global Development at Columbia University, Professor Safwan M. Masri, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding and open a new chapter in collaborative efforts between UNHCR and Columbia Global Centers | Amman.

“Outdoor air pollution is the second leading risk factor for mortality in India. Nearly one million lives are lost prematurely in India to air pollution,” said Dr. Alexandra Karambelas, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, The Earth Institute, Columbia University. Her lecture at the Center in May drew linkages between energy emissions, air quality and health outcomes and emphasized the need for better monitoring of air quality in India in order to draw up appropriate mitigation strategies.
